Saint Christopher and Nevis. On January 1, Sir Clement Arrindell was succeeded as General Governor by Sir Cuthbert Montroville Sebastian.

On June 23, Nevis leader Vance Amory commissioned his legislative authority to prepare a bill on Nevis’s resignation from the federation with Saint Christopher. The Federal Government’s Prime Minister Denzil Douglas responded by highlighting the risks of fragmentation, pointing out that the Caribbean (CARICOM) countries were striving towards greater integration.
