According to Allcitycodes, Uzbekistan is a landlocked country located in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, Tajikistan to the south, Turkmenistan to the southwest, and Afghanistan and China to the east. It has an area of 447,400 sq km (172,700 sq mi) and a population of 33 million people as of 2020. Its capital and largest city is Tashkent. The official language is Uzbek but Russian is also widely spoken in certain areas. The currency used in the country is the Uzbekistani som (UZS). The area code for Uzbekistan is +998 which can be used when dialing both within the country or from abroad. To make an international call from outside Uzbekistan to another country you must dial “00” followed by your country’s international access code then “998” followed by your desired number. For example: 00 + 998 + 99999999 (your desired number). In addition to this, each region has its own specific telephone code which should also be included when dialing within Uzbekistan or from abroad e.g., 071 + 998 + 99999999 (your desired number). In terms of geography, much of Uzbekistan consists of flat arid plains with some mountainous regions in its northeastern part such as Chimgan Peak which reaches 3303 m (10 837 ft) above sea level located near Tashkent on the northeast border with Kyrgyzstan. Other large bodies of water include Lake Aydarkul which lies between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan while other smaller water bodies are found throughout the region such as Lake Sarykamish located near Khiva on the east coast.
