Tuvalu is a Polynesian island nation located in the central Pacific Ocean. It is situated about halfway between Hawaii and Australia, and consists of nine tiny islands spread across a total land area of 26 sq km (10 sq mi). The terrain is generally low-lying and covered with grassy vegetation. Tuvalu has a tropical climate with hot, humid weather year-round. The population of Tuvalu is estimated at 11,000 people as of 2020. The official language of Tuvalu is Tuvaluan with English also widely spoken. The currency used in Tuvalu is the Australian dollar (AUD). The area code for Tuvalu is +688 which can be used when dialing both within Tuvalu or from abroad.
