According to Allcitycodes, the geography of Sudan is characterized by its vast expanse of desert land, which covers nearly two-thirds of the country’s total area. The country is located in the northeast corner of Africa and borders nine other countries, including Egypt, Libya, Chad, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Eritrea. The capital city of Sudan is Khartoum which lies at the junction between the Blue Nile and White Nile rivers. The highest peak in Sudan is Mount Kinyeti which stands at 3187 m (10,456 ft). Other major mountains in Sudan include Mount Marra (3005 m/9848 ft) and Jebel Barkal (2539 m/8335 ft). The country also has several major rivers such as the Blue Nile, White Nile and Atbara River. The climate in Sudan varies depending on location; however it generally has two distinct seasons including wet season from June to September and dry season from October to May. Temperatures can range from 16 °C (61 °F) in winter to 45 °C (113 °F) in summer. The international dialling code for Sudan is +249 followed by either 7 digits for landlines or 8 digits for mobile phones e.g: +249 1xx xxx xxx or +249 9xx xxx xxxx respectively where ‘x’ represents any digit between 0-9 depending on your telephone number. Sudanese area codes are divided into five categories – national area codes consisting of two digits followed by six digits e.g: 01-xxxxxx; provincial area codes consisting of three digits followed by six digits e.g: 091-xxxxxx; urbanized area codes consisting of four digits followed by six digits e.g: 0111-xxxxxx; local area codes consisting of four digits followed by seven digits e.g: 0111-xxxxxxx; and private exchange numbers consisting of five digits followed by seven digits e.g: 01111-xxxxxxx where ‘x’ represents any digit between 0-9 depending on your telephone number’s location within each province/district/urbanized area/local municipality respectively. The national flag of Sudan consists of three horizontal stripes – green, white and black – representing Islam while its national anthem is “Nahnu Djundulla Djundulwatan” meaning “We Are the Army of God” which was adopted as national anthem in 1956 after being composed by Sayed Darwish during World War I period when he was exiled to Egypt for his political activities against British rule.
