The international dialling code for Sri Lanka is +94 followed by either 7 digits for landlines or 10 digits for mobile phones e.g: +94 11xx xxx xx or +94 7xx xxx xxxx respectively where ‘x’ represents any digit between 0-9 depending on your telephone number. Sri Lankan area codes are divided into four categories – national area codes consisting of two digits followed by five digits e.g: 01-xxxxx; provincial area codes consisting of three digits followed by five digits e.g: 081-xxxxx; urbanized area codes consisting of four digits followed by five digits e.g: 0112-xxxxx; and local area codes consisting of four digits followed by six digits e.g: 0112-xxxxxx where ‘x’ represents any digit between 0-9 depending on your telephone number’s location within each province/district/urbanized area/local municipality respectively. The national flag of Sri Lanka consists of two vertical stripes – orange and green – representing Buddhism and Hinduism respectively while its national anthem is “Sri Lanka Matha” meaning “Mother Sri Lanka” which was adopted as national anthem in 1951 after being composed by Ananda Samarakoon during the 1940s independence movement against British rule.
