When it was granted the status of the Public Establishment in 1972, Pays de la Loire was placed under the direction of a regional prefect. With the expansion of powers, which were strengthened in 1982 by the decentralization laws of France, the population of the region was able to determine its own regional councils by direct elections for the first time in 1986. German regions such as Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Münsterland, Ruhrgebiet and Rhineland are also members, as well as Pays de la Loire, Somerset, Surrey and Cheshire in England. All member regions developed a garden route from gardens that are particularly worth seeing, such as botanical gardens and parks. Of course, these attract a large number of visitors, from which the individual regions also benefit financially. The new routes in Belgium and the Dutch provinces of Limbourg are also very popular. Attractions in the Picardie Amiens region

In the village of Chantilly there is also an important building, the Chantilly Castle. Its history is just as impressive as the building itself. The predecessor of today’s castle was built in the 7th century. The building complex that has been preserved to this day is one of the most interesting buildings from the 14th century. The Princely Condé family used to live here. The famous son of the family, Prince Louis (1621 – 1686) was later also called the Great Condé. He was rich, clever and enjoyed a high reputation as a famous general and patron of the arts. The 17th and 18th centuries were the epochs in which the castle flourished and was magnificently expanded. The palace held an open beauty contest with Versailles.
Chantilly is by the way one of the tourist cities in the region. Here, not for art events, but also sophisticated derbies and polo tournaments take place. The baroque garden and the hamlet from the 18th century as well as the riding school are particularly beautiful. There is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site here. The famous Chantilly Cathedral is the largest church in France and at the same time a model for today’s Cologne Cathedral. The builders Robert de Luzarches, Thomas de Cormont and his son Regnaut made themselves immortal with this building.
