It was not Hedi Slimane or Marc Jacobs, as some of our readers hoping in November. Instead, the designer duo Viktor & Rolf that become H & M’s next partner, after Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney.
One-time collection, targeted at both women and men, will be available in selected H & M stores on all H & M markets across Europe, North America and the Middle East. It will be launched in November 2006, writes H & M in a press release.
The partnership seems to follow H & M line to move more towards dressed collections. The men behind Viktor & Rolf, Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, started their cooperation in 1993 and has its heart in haute couture, primarily focusing on women’s collections. In recent years, they have expanded the concept, which now includes both men’s collections as accessories and fragrance series.
The mix of dressy collections and haute couture ensures a healthy addition to H & M’s otherwise quite conservative menswear collection. At the same time there will be a guess, not a question of quite the same freedom of expression that Viktor & Rolf usually presents when haute couture and mass production into a global apparel chain are two different concepts at odds.
