Climate and Weather of Birmingham, United Kingdom

The climate of Birmingham

Birmingham is a city in the Midlands and one of the most industrial cities in England. Birmingham grew into the center of the metal industry in the 19th century. Due to the presence of large factories and a lot of relatively low-skilled work, many migrants from the former crown colonies came to this city. Birmingham is therefore one of the most multicultural cities in England. About 29% of the population is of foreign descent. One of the major attractions of Birmingham is the Chinese Quarter. Here you can buy all kinds of Chinese products in small shops and of course delicious Chinese food. In addition, the industrial past of the city also plays a major role. One of James Watt’s first steam engines can be seen in the technical museum.

According to citypopulationreview, Birmingham’s climate is classified as an oceanic climate, with summers hovering around 20°C and winter temperatures around 4.5°C. Really extreme weather events are rare, although Birmingham has been hit by a tornado (the last time in 2005). In recent years, heat waves have become more frequent in the summer months. Due to the dense buildings and crowds in the city, it often seems even warmer than it actually is.
