Samoa climate
Samoa has a warm and always humid tropical climate all year round. The mean temperatures are around 26-27 ° C all year round. The average annual precipitation is a good 3,000 mm. They are much higher with 6,000 – 7,500 mm in the mountains and on the south and east coasts of the islands. The mountain ridges facing from west to east are responsible for this. They ensure that the damp clouds rain down here. For the north-western coastal strip in the rain shadow of the mountains, there is not so much moisture left. Here “only” 2,500 mm of precipitation fall per year.
Samoa has two seasons. The rainy season between November and April is characterized by a hot and very humid climate with an often overcast sky and strong thunderstorms in the late afternoon. Two thirds of the annual rainfall falls in this half of the year, when the southeast trade wind blows a particularly large number of rain clouds. The air temperature can then reach up to 30 ° C, the water temperature of the ocean up to a maximum of 28 ° C. Although Samoa actually is not on the cyclone track of tropical cyclones, it is in the more humid season from January to March possible that every second or third year the country is on the trajectory of a hurricane.
The dry or “cool” season between May and October has a lot of sunshine, more pleasant temperatures, which can drop to 20 ° C at night, and a sea temperature of 24-25 ° C. Trade winds cause a mild breeze from the sea, which makes the high humidity more bearable. But even in the drier half of the year, heavy but short showers keep falling. But soon there is wonderful sunshine again.
Best travel time for Samoa
The dry season from May to October is the best travel time for Samoa, with the driest months of June, July and August being particularly recommended. Then there is only relatively little precipitation and temperatures fluctuate between 22 and 29 ° C during this time. In addition, the trade winds blow, which ensure that the humid atmosphere is not felt as oppressive.
In the rainy season from November to April, however, heavy showers and thunderstorms, uncomfortably high humidity and tropical cyclones can spoil the holiday fun. For more information about the continent of Oceania, please check politicsezine.com.
