Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 1996

Yearbook 1996

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Agriculture continued to be the dominant sector in the country’s economy. The cultivation of bananas is the most important source of income, but some of the other crops have had some success.

The financial support received from the EU in 1994 in the form of a “Banana Rehabilitation and Replanting Program” together with new contracts with the Irish fruit distributor Fyffes resulted in an increase in GDP in the order of 5% in 1996.
