Cape Verde. According to
Countryaah.com, President António Mascarenhas Monteiro was
re-elected in February. Monteiro represented Movimento Para
a Democracia (MPD).
Prime Minister Carlos Veiga appointed five new ministers
in March following the December 1995 election results, when
MPD won and received 50 of Parliament's 72 seats in total.
Cape Verde is one of seven countries that are part of the
newly formed Commonwealth for Portuguese-speaking countries,
the Comunidade de Paises de Língua Portuguesa (CPLP). The
Commonwealth shall work to spread the Portuguese and promote
cooperation between the Member States.
