Bahrain. According to
Countryaah.com, Shiite protests erupted in the country at the
beginning of the year. The Shi'a Muslims have been trying
for years to gain greater influence over the policy and
demand, among other things, that the country's national
assembly be opened, but they have so far failed.
In June, 44 people were arrested for coup attempts. They
were reported to be members of the Iran-backed organization
Hizbullah-Bahrain. A diplomatic crisis between Bahrain and
Iran arose because of allegations that Iran had been
involved in the coup.
